Biography

Photographer Philipp Arnoldt
Dietmar Köring, a versatile professional in architecture, research, and education, resides in Cologne. He leads the architectural research firm Arphenotype, where he specializes in transcending the boundaries between various artistic domains.
 
Having served as a research fellow at TU Berlin / CHORA City & Energy from 2012 to 2017, Dietmar also imparted knowledge on Digital Design at TU Braunschweig from 2010 to 2012. In 2011, he assumed the role of Guest Professor for Virtual Realities & Experimental Architecture at the University Innsbruck ./Studio3. Moreover, he contributed as a Technology and Design Lecturer at the Cologne Institute for Architectural Design / C-I-A-D and as a visiting lecturer for digital design at DeMontfort University Leicester. Notably, from 2011 to 2012, he held the position of assistant professor for Smart City Concepts at the Technical University Cologne.
 
His educational journey saw him study architecture at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne, the University of Western Sydney, and the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts, culminating in his Dipl.-Ing. (FH) degree in 2005. Subsequently, he attained his MArch from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London in 2007, and completed his Dr.-Ing. at the Technical University of Berlin in 2018. During 2021-2023, Dietmar served as a senior guest researcher at the Art Academy of Latvia, Institute of Contemporary Art, Design, and Architecture.
 
With an international outlook, Dietmar has collaborated with esteemed firms including Coop Himmelblau, Graft, 3deluxe, and Andrew Wright Associates. His research efforts have earned recognition such as the Jaap Bakema Fellowship / NAI, while his works have been widely published and exhibited globally. Additionally, Dietmar has contributed to the field through international lectures, guest critiques, and workshops.
